Measuring Growth Mindset

Abstract. A growth mindset is a belief that personal characteristics, specifically intellectual ability, are malleable and can be developed by investing time effort. Numerous studies have investigated the associations between academic achievement, large intervention programs been established to train adolescents develop stronger mindset. However, methodological research on adequacy of measures used assess scarce. In our study, we conducted one first comprehensive assessments psychometric properties Dweck’s widely three-item Growth Mindset Scale in two samples (adolescents aged 14–19 years adults 20–64 years). We test comparability (i.e., measurement invariance) scale across these age groups. Furthermore, using same samples, identified validated single-item measure settings with severe constraints. Results reveal both scales acceptable regarding reliability, comparability, validity. results did not support some central tenets theory, such as positively linked goal regulation calling for future criterion validity
